What is an IMEI number? IMEI stands for International
Mobile Equipment Identity. Virtually all mobile phone handsets have this unique
identification number programmed in.
How do I find my mobile's unique IMEI number? Simply key
*#06# (star, hash, zero, six, hash) into your mobile. The number should then be
displayed. It does not cost you to retrieve this.
What use is the IMEI number? If your mobile phone is
lost or stolen and you have your IMEI number, you just need to make one quick
call to your service provider to block the handset. This prevents use by a thief.
Why register my IMEI number with wheresmymobile.com? To
retrieve it easily so that you can pass it on to your network provider if your
mobile is stolen - hence rendering the mobile useless even if another SIM is
used in it.
How does my IMEI help if someone finds my phone or it is handed
in? When the finder visits our site, they are requested to enter your
mobile's IMEI number by either dialling in *#06# or by removing the battery -
underneath which the IMEI is printed. Once they have entered the IMEI number
into our site, a form will appear for the finder to enter details as to where
your phone is and how you can retrieve it. This email is sent directly to you via us.
This is why it is vital that your email address is always kept up to date on
your Summary page!
Surely if someone finds my phone they will keep it? Tens
of thousands of mobile phones are handed in by members of the public to lost
properties at railway stations, shops, schools and countless other public
places all over the UK, and never collected by their owners. Remember, if you block your handset with your provider
as soon as you realise it is lost, it will be of no use to the finder.
What use are the labels provided by
wheresmymobile.com? The label on your phone alerts the finder to the
fact that they should visit wheresmymobile.com. In effect, the label highlights
to a finder that your phone is registered with us so the chance that you'll get
your mobile back is increased.
What if my label gets damaged after time? If your label
is damaged or worn within 1 year your last registration, we will consider replacing it for free upon
receipt of a SAE, subject to our Terms & Conditions. Your statutory rights are not affected.
Do I HAVE to upgrade ie buy labels and add extra mobiles? No. You are not obliged
to upgrade - you can test our basic service for free!
What personal information is required for your
service? Only your mobile number, IMEI number, email address, mobile
billing type (ie whether Pay Monthly / Pay As You Go etc) and mobile network
details are required. You may add, amend and delete most of this information at
any time by logging in with your username and password.
Is it really FREE to register my mobile with
wheresmymobile.com? Yes, it presently costs absolutely nothing to
register - it's FREE! The only condition is that we contact you occasionally by
telephone or email offering competitive mobile deals. Your details will NEVER
be sold to a third party and we will never bombard you with junk email.
Will such registration be free forever? We cannot guarantee
it will be free forever. However, if we start charging you will be given plenty
of notice to decide whether you want the pay-for service.
How many mobiles can I register with
wheresmymobile.com? You can register one mobile for a free trial and all of the mobiles in the household
if you upgrade - there is currently no maximum number of times you can upgrade.
Do I need a separate username and password for each mobile in
our household? No. Once you have registered one mobile and have a
username & password, you can add further mobiles to your existing
account by upgrading.
Can someone else register my mobile? Yes, but there
would be little point. They would only be able to benefit from registration if
they had access to your mobile's IMEI number - for this they would need your
mobile in their possession.
What happens if I forget my username and/or
password? Email us via the 'Contact us' link on the menu.
How do I delete / amend my IMEI / mobile details if I find I
have entered them wrongly or the information is out of date? Simply
delete the entry by clicking the relevant check box then click the 'Delete
selected mobile' button. If you then wish to enter new details, follow the
above step.
Can you guarantee I will get my mobile back? No. We rely
on third parties contacting you via our site. However, our service
greatly improves the chances of your phone being recovered if lost.
If my mobile phone is lost or stolen do I contact
wheresmymobile.com? No, we do not need to be advised. The finder of your
mobile can contact you directly by email (via us) by entering your IMEI number at our
site.
